Fugazi Offshore Report September 15th, 2006
Report by Oz/Moose

Warning: High Load Time

With a long range trip planned aboard the Nyati, it was decisively cancelled yesterday morning due to the weekend weather outlook. We were then left with a beautiful Friday but no where to go. Scott gives me a shout and wants to go snorkling at the jetties. Moose calls me up and wanted to go offshore for a few hours. With the wind picking up and the water getting dirty by the rocks I eventually chose to head out offshore with Moose.

Moose and I ventured out for a quick trip in his 31' yacht in hopes to slay a few fish before the winds picked up. We departed out of Packery around noon and stopped for an hour at one of the inshore rigs just long enought to catch Whiting, Sand Trout, and Bonnetheads??? Anyway, knew we were wasting time and bombed out about 15-20 miles and pulled up to a top secret rig with lots of activity in the water. Not long after and we spot several Cobia and under them comes cruising a curious Whale Shark quite simlar in size to the boat.

Needless to say we dove in with it and got some killer pics and footage. I climbed back out just long enough to pick a Ling off it then jumped back in and spent the rest of the afternoon cruising with it. Very cool sight and its the first time i've been able to hop in and ride with one. He was quite curious and never left visual range of us and would often come up to the stern of the boat to give Moose a lookover while he would give it a pat on the head. After a while the winds were picking up pretty good and sun was going down so we called it a day and left him to patrol the rig. Overall a very thrilling afternoon and thanks to Moose for allowing just a two man army to venture out on the boat.

Here are a few pics from both Moose and myself.
