Texas S.T.A.R Tournament  2004

The State of Texas Angler's Rodeo (STAR) is, in effect, our membership recruitment drive for CCA Texas. It is exclusive in that all tournament entrants must be a current CCA Texas member before they are eligible to fish the STAR Tournament. It spans the entire Texas Gulf Coast and offers almost $1,000,000 in prizes and scholarships. It covers five major media markets for a three-month period starting the Saturday before Memorial Day and continues through Labor Day. Fishing categories include Speckled Trout, Flounder, Sheepshead, Gafftop, Dorado, King Mackerel and Red Snapper. Prepaid college scholarships worth $325,000 are awarded to kids each year, in increments up to $50,000 each, for catching the easiest and most plentiful bay species. A special tagged Redfish division is also included, with winners receiving complete boat and truck combos. Since fishing is the number one recreational sport in the country, CCA Texas has not limited participation to only the glamour species, so that we may effectively reach the fishing "family". The tournament is professionally directed "to ensure" a squeaky-clean" outcome. It is also zero-budgeted; that is, the money raised is plowed back into the event in the form of media, prizes and more scholarships. Indeed, it is a fun, wholesome recreational event for the entire family. With the option to fish for 100 consecutive days of action coast-wide, anyone can win, any time!!!

Ladie Kingfish Tournament 2004
August 13-15

The 23rd Annual South Padre Island Chamber of Commerce Ladies Kingfish Tournament is coming up August 13 - 15, 2004 at the South Padre Island Convention Center. Weigh-in for the tournament will again be at SouthPoint Marina.

The tournament is divided into two divisions, Bay and Offshore. Anglers fishing in the Bay Division will vie for trophies in the categories of Redfish, Trout and Flounder, while anglers in the Offshore Division complete in the categories of King, Bonito, Blackfin Tuna and Dolphin. In addition to trophies being awarded to the first four places in each category; Grand Champion Bay, Grand Champion Offshore, and Overall Largest Fish winners will also receive trophies, along with the best hard luck story for each division.

The LKT has been a popular Island tradition for the last 22 years. The first two years, the tournament was called Yellow Rose of Texas, then changed its name to the Ladies Kingfish Tournament and a new Island tradition was born. In 1993, the South Padre Island Chamber of Commerce was asked to take over the coordination of the growing event. This year's Chairperson is Loraine Johnston, one of the event's original participants.

The tournament kicks off Friday, August 13 with check-in and registration from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Convention Centre, followed by a social from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. There will be a Bay Division Captain's meeting at 6:30 p.m. and a Offshore Division Captain's meeting at 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday, fishing begins at 6:30 a.m. SouthPoint Marina is where all the action will be with Bay division weigh-in from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Offshore weigh-in from 2:30 to 7:00 p.m. The change in location also provides a much larger viewing and parking area for family and friends, and anyone else that would like to see who brings in the biggest fish. The Sunday Awards Ceremony will be held at the South Padre Island Convention Centre beginning at 11:00 a.m. All participants are invited to attend.

Registration fees for the tournament are $75.00 per angler before July 16, 2004 and $85.00 per angler after July 16, 2004. The registration fee includes an event T-shirt, event bag, refreshments and hors' d oeuvres at the Friday night social, and a light brunch at the Sunday awards ceremony. There is an optional $40.00 social fee for guests, captains or crew that includes an event T-shirt and refreshments at the social and awards ceremony. Tickets may also be purchased at the door for the Friday evening Social and at the Sunday Brunch for $10.00 per person, per event. Children under 12 will be $5.00 per child, per event. Food will be available only with a ticket.

Join us for the 23rd Annual Ladies Kingfish Tournament and start your own Island tradition.
